 Hotel Description:

The guest rooms are decorated with a charming, European-influenced décor and furnishings. They are equipped with oversized bathtubs, cable TV with premium channels, a personal safe, and umbrella. For convenience to theaters, fine dining, attractions, and Union Square shopping, at a reasonable nightly rate, the Chancellor Hotel is a good option. These rooms feature ceiling fans and functional windows, which open to let in the fresh air. This 15-story landmark has been owned by the same family, since it first opened in 1914 (when it was the tallest building in the city at that time). Many of the city's major theaters are within 3 blocks. Local calls are free, and guests also enjoy complimentary access to a fitness club located right next door. Located on the Powell Street Cable Car line, the Chancellor Hotel lies in the city's shopping district, five blocks from the Museum of Modern Art and a half- mile from Chinatown. A restaurant and bar are located right off the lobby, and the hotel offers wireless Internet access in its public areas. The lobby retains its period style, with a 20- foot ceiling, Oriental rug, granite-topped registration desk, and a bar, where the mirror is emblazoned with the image of a propeller plane. The Chancellor Hotel is a favorite of vacationers, who like the shopper's paradise of Union Square just outside the door.
